The Carolina Jr. Hurricanes are proud to announce that Thomas Durrett, an Atlanta native and key member of the 24-25 Premier team, has broken the United States Premier Hockey League (USPHL) record for the most regular season games played at the Premier level.

Durrett’s hockey journey began at just 5 years old when his father signed him up for a “Learn to Play” program. Despite never having skated before, Thomas was gliding across the ice by the end of his first session. This moment sparked a passion for the game that has propelled him to an extraordinary milestone.

Thomas started his USPHL Premier career with the Atlanta Madhatters at age 16, balancing his time on the ice with high school life. His performance caught the attention of scouts, leading to opportunities with the Twin City Thunder in the NCDC. After graduating high school, Thomas joined the Nashville Spartans – now the Red River Spartans – where he spent two standout seasons and made a playoff run at the USPHL Premier National Championships.

Continuing his development, Thomas played briefly with the Casper Warbirds in the NCDC before being picked up by the Carolina Jr. Hurricanes after impressing at the Warbirds’ Main Camp. Since joining the Jr. Hurricanes, Thomas has brought leadership, determination, and an unmatched love for the game, making him a cornerstone of the team’s success.

Reflecting on his record-breaking milestone, Thomas shared, “Playing in the USPHL Premier League has been an incredible opportunity for me to grow as a player and person. The competition, coaching, and camaraderie have pushed me to develop my skills on the ice and my character off it. I’m so grateful for my experiences in this league, which have prepared me for the next step in my hockey career at the NCAA level. I’m excited to continue chasing my dreams.”

“Thomas’s achievement speaks volumes about his resilience and dedication to the sport,” said Brad Gaylord, head coach of the Carolina Jr. Hurricanes. “Breaking a record like this doesn’t happen by chance—it’s a result of years of hard work and a deep passion for the game.”

Thomas’s record-breaking achievement will be celebrated with a special recognition ceremony before the Jr. Hurricanes’ next home game. As he continues his journey toward a future at the NCAA level, Thomas remains a shining example of the dedication and heart it takes to excel in hockey.

The Carolina Jr. Hurricanes and the entire USPHL community congratulate Thomas Durrett on this historic accomplishment!
