This fall, Northern Cyclones center Hunter Gentz will join the Hiram College Terriers for their inaugural varsity season, announcing his commitment to the school. The opportunity to contribute to a brand-new team and help lay the foundation for its future success was a key factor in his decision. Hiram’s strong academic offerings made the choice a natural fit for his athletic and academic aspirations.

Gentz’ three seasons in the USPHL Premier significantly prepared him for the next step in his career. Competing in a league focused on development and showcasing talent at a high level helped him grow as a player and gain exposure to college programs.

“The USPHL Premier allowed me to compete against top-tier competition and connect with coaches. It really opened doors for me,” he said. “The USPHL Premier was also amazing for exposure to college scouts. The showcases and tournaments gave me the chance to prove myself against top-tier competition and connect with coaches and programs. It opened so many doors and helped me get to where I am today. I’m so grateful for those opportunities.”

This past season with the Cyclones was a standout experience for Gentz, as he thrived in an environment defined by relentless effort and camaraderie.

“The team has a relentless work ethic and an incredible sense of brotherhood,” he said. “We work hard for each other every single game, and that’s something I want to bring to Hiram. I’m excited to carry that same drive and sense of teamwork into a brand-new program.”

As he prepares for college hockey, Gentz focuses on refining key aspects of his game. These include improving his skating, building strength to handle the physicality of the college level, and enhancing his hockey IQ to make smart plays under pressure. With Hiram College embarking on its first season, Gentz looks forward to helping establish a culture of success for the program.

The USPHL congratulates Hunter Gentz, his family, the Northern Cyclones and Hiram College for his commitment!
